Branch Report - February 2016

We are thrilled to start 2016 by sharing the news with you that we are the main charity partner for the 2016 North Lincolnshire Half Marathon. Over the coming weeks we look forward to working closely with our fantastic colleagues at Bloodwise North and the event organisers at the North Lincolnshire Half Marathon to make this years race a huge success and raise vital funds for Bloodwise. Keep an eye on our social media sites and website where we will be sharing more news over the coming weeks about running for team Bloodwise at the event. If you've already entered the ballot and would like to raise funds for Bloodwise please email north@bloodwise.org.uk for more information.

We have recently booked for another Skydive to Beat Blood Cancer Day at Skydive Hibaldstow on Sunday 31st July. We are very excited to share the news about this event as it was a great success last year. For any individual who wishes to carry out a skydive, the jump from 15,000ft will cost a set price of £200. However, as a branch we are offering to refund this £200 to the individual if a total of £400 sponsorship is raised, meaning the jump is effectively free of cost to the jumper. This gives an incentive to jumper to raise as much money as possible for a truly fantastic cause. If you wish to get involved by signing up or are interested in finding out more, please get in touch by emailing bloodwisewinterton@yahoo.co.uk or calling on 07546202807.

We had a busy end to 2015 with our festive fundraising. Despite the weather not being on our side we had a great turn out for the Winterton Christmas Light Switch On that we hosted with Winterton Town Council and the Winterton Lions which raised £125 to beat blood cancer.

We also had a busy time at Christmas Fairs holding stands at both Winterton and Brigg Lions Christmas Market’s, the Baths Hall Christmas Fair, and the Winterton Community Academy FOCUS Group Fair where we raised over £600 in total. We also launched our first Christmas Appeal which saw the community generously give a Christmas gift of £280 to help us on our mission to beat all 137 types of blood cancer and Persimmon Homes gave our fundraising a boost by donating a generous £1,000 through their community champion scheme.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be busy visiting local supermarkets to carry out bucket collections. On Thursday 18th February we will be at Tesco Extra Scunthorpe and on Sunday 20th March we will be at Carlton Street Asda Scunthorpe.
