Danny receives Prime Ministers Point of Light Award
Today our Branch Co-ordinator Daniel Redhead is being recognised by the Prime Minister’s, Points of Light awards for his contribution and dedication to volunteering with Bloodwise.
Prime Minister David Cameron said: “Daniel has shown tremendous courage in taking the experience of losing a friend to leukaemia and being inspired to raise money to tackle blood cancer. By leading a group of young people to raise over £70,000, Daniel has made a fantastic contribution to the work of Bloodwise and I delighted to recognise him as a Point of Light.”
The daily Points of Light award recognises outstanding individual volunteers - people who are making a change in their community. Each day since the campaign started last year, a volunteer is given this prize as recognition of the impact they’ve made – winners receive a signed letter and certificate from the Prime Minister, who will also tweet his congratulations about the winner.
Daniel was the 402nd recipient of the award, he said: “I am completely overwhelmed to receive such a special award. I enjoy every minute spent raising funds and awareness for Bloodwise. There’s nothing more rewarding than giving something back to a good cause, and we are determined to make a difference to the lives of those diagnosed with blood cancer.”
Daniel is among a group of #iwill ambassadors for the #iwill campaign being recognised with the Point of Light award this week on the second anniversary of the campaign which aims to encourage more young people to take part in social action.
Cathy Gilman, the Chief Executive of Bloodwise said ‘From the second I first met Danny, I knew he was a young man who would change the world. He is an inspiration to everyone; he won’t stop until we’ve beaten blood cancer and personifies all that it is to be Bloodwise. We are delighted that this has been recognised with this special award’.
